Recently I had a church meeting with our music director.

I shared this poem below, with her.

It was still in draft format.

It was about life’s scars and using them for God’s glory.

♡♡♡

After I finished reading, she pointed to a long scar on her face. I had never noticed it before.

Only after I read my poem to her, did I see it!

She proceeded to tell me a heart breaking story.

♡♡♡

When she was fifteen she was involved in a terrible car accident.

Three of her childhood friends died.

They were all travelling in the car with her.

♡♡♡

She was very badly injured but God did not take her that day!

She was alive today, retelling me this tragic story in 2024 and I was left with my mouth hanging open.

This poem I will be publishing is even more special to me now.

♡♡♡

I had written about my scars and Jesus’s scars.

Now I had another scar story to add. It was hers.

I loved her even more after hearing her heart breaking story.

♡♡♡

This new poem represents all of us.

We all have scars.

Jesus has scars.

He gets it.

Scars fully surrendered to God, heal perfectly.

♡♡♡

Every time I feel that rip inside

Mend it dear God

With a stitch from on high!

Tonight I felt pain

Of an unresolved sort

I felt defeated and lonely

Upset and distraught!

But quickly on time

I stopped the rip in its tracks

I knew I needed to trust God

He always had my back!

Suddenly I realised the

Significance of pain

It can be our friend

Or hurt us again

If we treat our pain

Right, we stop the

Wound from growing

If we hurt our pain more

The bloods keeps on flowing

Is this pain, a friend?

A good messenger

In disguise?

Is this pain planned

To draw me

Closer to Christ?

Is this pain from Satan?

Only a demonic lie?

Does this pain kill

God’s promises?

Does the pain

Push God aside?

If so, then stop!

Shout!

No more pain anymore!

You are a liar and deceiver

I’m not listening anymore!

D stands for

Depression

The D word is real

O stands for

Oppression

Satan’s evil seal

S stands for suppression

The enemy’s mind control

It’s a fiery poke

From Satan

To silence

The wounded soul!

Wow! I hear you say

I’ve never heard of

D.O.S. before!

I answer you back and say

I made him up before! (that’s true!)

I am a poet called Helen

At helenolenjin.life

I write poetry

For Jesus

He is the way

The truth and light!

As a Christian poet

I revealed….

How pain can be a lie!

However there is a

Heavenly pain

That brings healing inside

This pain is good

This pain is right

This pain is like gold

In God’s healing light!

God knows the secret

To get rid of this pain

The answer may be hidden

But God heals you again!

The stitching He does

Is slow and full of care

A scar may remain

That is better there

This scar stays intact

To remind you of your need

This scar doesn’t lie

It is God’s holy seed!

The scar reminds you

To pray

The scar is your

Salt and light

It reminds you

To serve the Lord

And to follow

What is right!

When a scar is brought out

It comes into the light

God does His healing work there

Then your heart is made right!

God’s healing is pure

His defence team is real

The Father, Spirit, Son unite

They come to help you heal

Bad pain is from Satan

His wounds are not God’s will

Bigger scars will develop

When your prayer life is still

Don’t run from past hurts

They tell a good story

Your scars will be used again

To bring God more glory

Jesus has scars

They brought the repentance of man

He wants you to use yours

To tell others you can!

You can heal at the cross

You can start today

You can choose God right now

He is always the best way!

Don’t let your scars, dear friend

Distant you from healing

God’s scars

Are really

Diamonds underneath

They shine the

Best when kneeling

So kneel my friend and pray

These scars have plans for you

Ask God to help you understand

What your scars can do!

When you ask God for help

Your scars start to fade away

But when you forget His Holy Word

The pain comes back today!

This poetry is my diamond

Great scars came before

Now I understand the importance

Of serving God

It couldn’t have happened before

My old scar is now my friend

The diamond sits on top

My scar remains underneath

It is God’s anointed spot!

  1. Absolutely Beautiful Post – from the Words to the Pictures.

This story is deeply moving, and I can’t help but reflect on how powerful it is to witness God’s redemptive work in our lives, especially through our scars. What you’ve shared resonates so deeply with me. This poem and the story behind it bring to light the beautiful truth that God has a purpose for everything that happens in our lives, even the painful, heartbreaking moments. It shows us that our imperfections, struggles, and scars are not just signs of suffering, but they are powerful testimonies of God’s grace and love.

As someone who has struggled with feelings of insecurity and imperfection for much of my life, I can now see how these “flaws” were never meant to make me feel less than or different. Instead, they’ve become gifts I can use to share God’s love with others. I’ve learned that our scars and imperfections are not a curse, but rather tools for glorifying God. After more than fifty years of living with my own scars, I can truly say that they were never meant to define me in a negative way, but to help me connect with others and point them to the healing power of Christ.

Your poem, and especially the story you shared with your music director, is such a beautiful reminder that we all have scars. Jesus Himself has scars, and He understands our pain. And when we surrender our scars to Him, they are healed, transformed into something greater than we could have imagined. As you beautifully wrote, “God’s scars are really diamonds underneath. They shine the best when kneeling.”

    1. Amen, my precious brother Willie!! Spot on. You summed it up perfectly. That poem was very healing for me to write as it was a writing “to myself” and God knew it would minister deeply to my own heart the most!

As writers, we have a wonderful calling. We write ✍️ in a way that helps us stay faithful to God!

Because His wisdom 4SELF makes perfect sense. …

Then secondary, the readers who read our writings are blest too as God makes sure they are!

Recently a young man just started chatting to me on the bus.

His behaviour was very unusual. He wasn’t like the standard young man who would not trust a stranger. He treated me like he knew me his whole life. I wasn’t sure why he was so trusting but this odd-misfit-behaviour, looked like his personal gift. Others would have viewed him as strange/naive or perhaps disabled in some way but I saw his diamond 💎. It was the gift to treat strangers like family and as this is so rare, I wondered if this was “his gift”, to love and interact with strangers purely…like a child. I was greatly refreshed 😌 after our conversation. He was just being himself but he was beautiful! Like a man-child.

Even our scars/flaws make us more beautiful! This imperfection is what makes us shine ✨️ for God purely not carnally.

      1. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful, thought-provoking message. It’s a reminder to embrace our own uniqueness and to always see the beauty in others, no matter how different they may seem.
