The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet. Proverbs 10:19
“Your silence is not a void to be filled. Let silence be your signature.” (Author unknown)

We sometimes think that the power of persuasion is in the tongue. But it is in God’s Word, not ours. Trust God to bring the prodigals home. Trust God to help you say less in every day life. Often we try to speak more. But then we fall flat on our faces. Now I see that less is more! The power of God, doesn’t need my words! Enjoy my new poem.

I see the weakness of my tongue
I see the power of the Son
He often said little….
Why can’t we be like that?
“Have faith in God”
It’s as simple as that!

Think about that person you want to change
Then trust God in silence
God knows their name!

Silence is not always golden
Sometimes you must speak
Sometimes your words
Are God’s messages
That encourage the sad & weak

God will judge our silence
He will judge our words too
Sometimes words cause pain
But silence can too

We often think words win!
We talk on and on
We try to teach others
We come on too strong!

All the while God is watching
He doesn’t say one word
He hears us speak aloud
He quietly observes….

We think we have the power
With this one little tongue!
But ask yourself this question
“Is my tongue greater than the Son?”

Stop trying to change another…
By using the power of words
Your tongue can easily sin then
You feel exhausted, & not heard

Give your tongue to God!
Resting from words will heal…
Your little waffler takes a rest
With heaven’s holy seal!

God’s seal is peace & rest
His hand has closed a door
Your tongue sits behind it
Your tongue speaks no more!

You suddenly feel God’s peace
That comes with a resting tongue
You allow God to speak…
You don’t hurt anyone

You relax in the stillness
Then God unseals your door
Your tongue is free to speak now!
But it’s different than before

Your tongue sins less
Your tongue is wise
It’s not a chattering bird
God heals without your human tongue
God doesn’t need more words!

Sometimes we need words. Sometimes we don’t. Sometimes God wants to hear our words – when we pray, when we sing, when we repent, when we encourage, when we share God’s Word….Whatever the case, God’s words and God’s silence, are perfect for the time.

My prayer today is, “Dear God, help me to speak and help me to remain silent at just the right times.”
